Every sax player NEEDS to try a DV
I played on an Otto Link 7* from 2008 until probably 2016ish when I tried this piece. I tried replacing the link a few different times prior, but nothing did it. Great piece, but not for everyone.
I recently had the chance to try one the DV 7*. At first I was psyched about it, because I had heard that it's one of the top-of-the-line mouthpieces on the market. Anyways, I put it on my tenor (at the time is was a very nice Selmer Super Action 80 serie II) and gave 'er a go. The results were pret...

I would buy the product with a different opening.
Hard blowing and as loud as possible thanks to all of the "Guitar Gods"
Every sax player NEEDS to try a DV
I played on an Otto Link 7* from 2008 until probably 2016ish when I tried this piece. I tried replacing the link a few different times prior, but nothing did it. I loved the tone colors and edge of the link, but hated how it couldn't project like a laser or brighten up. It never screamed for me. The more I pushed the fatter the sound would get, but it would become very spread, not tight and laser like. Everything I played that had laser tone would completely sacrifice the lush sweet sounds I loved. Then comes the DV and oh my I was blown away. It played like a direct improvement on a classic mouthpiece. It has all the bottom end of the link (ok maybe not ALL of it but like 80-85%) and just as sweet a subtone. I can get similar tone colors out of the same reed but with a ton more projection and better responsiveness. And if I really push the reed my sax will absolutely scream and cut like a lightsaber, but without getting all shrill and painful. It's still bright, but think more like sweet yellow light instead of cold hard glass. I've never played a mouthpiece that have me so many tonal options with such ease. It is perfect for all of my playing settings, which are pop, jazz, rock, funk style gigs. It would probably be a rough ride if you're doing classical or need to blend in a wind band really well. I typically play as a solo horn or with one trumpet player and need to play with lots of different inflections and styles and timbres for solos/backgrounds/melodies. This piece gives me access to so much, it seriously changed my playing and makes sax such a joy and such a fun experience. I can't understand why people pay even higher prices than this for absolute vintage junk. You'll see old-school pieces sell used for similar money, for a "vintage" tone... What a joke. This mouthpiece is like a modern PC vs one from the 90s... I seriously doubt you'll find a better piece than this unless you're looking for a very dark, focused sound..
Beautiful mouthpiece and I love the sound!
Beautiful mouthpiece and I love the sound!
I would buy this product again
The JodyJazz DV Tenor 9* mouthpiece is the best mouthpiece I've ever played. Remarkably free blowing, extremely flexible, and a gorgeous sound. Worth every penny!
Follow Up Review
This is a follow up review to what I said about my 7* DV. I sized up to the 8* after playing the 7* after reading/hearing Jody Jazz suggests for their mouthpieces higher than normal reed strength or larger tip openings than what one's accustomed to, I played the 7* with stronger reeds, tried the 8* with my normal reed strength and settled on the 8*. While everything I said about the 7* holds true, the 8* does play even better for me. Keep in mind the possibility of sizing up reed strength or tip opening when purchasing. I'd like to add that I'm loving these Jody Jazz mouthpieces more with each playing. Because I was so amazed by the DV, I purchased the DV CHI and DV NY (all sized up from 7* to 8*). Last night, after I got done playing, my wife commented how good I sounded (JJ DV CHI). She said she could tell a difference in the sound, and she's not a musician, so that really says something about the mouthpieces in my mind.
Review
Honestly, this is the best contemporary tenor mouthpiece I've ever played (Theo Wanne, SR Tech, MB II, Vandoren, etc). It offers a contemporary sound and projection without being thin or shrill. Intonation is excellent. Before this DV, I've never played a tenor mouthpiece that is simultaneously contemporary, projecting and fat sounding all at the same time. The mouthpiece is also exceptionally well made.
Fat, strong, bright, huge bottom - free blowing!
The patented secondary window adds a shot of Dexter Gordon or that husky barrel chested sound to a contemporary sounding and playing mouthpiece. 1000's of satisfied DV customers around the world. Check the YouTube clip to see a transcription of Andy Snitzer playing the DV.
Looking for big full sound?
just tried it, have not purchased yet
great sound i have 10 other mouthpieces that sound the same
for smooth jazz , Steve Cole recommended it for me
Good decision
I'm very happy with this mouthpiece. I can play softly, or I can push it - it's very responsive and projects easily. When the trombone player in the row behind you compliments you on your new sound, you know you've made a good decision.
