Decent Mouthpiece. Great segway to intermediate playing!
I got this mouthpiece to upgrade and it certainly was one! I personally got a BL4 to go between Classical and Jazz and it worked well. It has a big sound and makes range easy and has great intonation. Play very loud and very soft and sounds great. Only issues are when you put it on a horn that has any slightly to very worn corks. It will probably slide since the inside is very large. Use paper or something. Otherwise, a great intermediate mouthpiece!
Great product!
I have played on both the BL 3 and BL4 facings. The BL4 facing gives me a more robust low register at the cost of the upper register. If you're playing literature that requires a lot of highs or altissimo I would suggest the BL3 big robust loud low register, the BL4.
Didn't work for me
Bought the bl4. Sales support said my m/o ligature would fit. They couldn't be more wrong. The m/o is about half the size of this mouthpiece. Not even my Yamaha 5c ligature fit this monster mouthpiece. Ultimately, I had to have someone else hold the reed to test it. There were a lot of intonation issues but the tone was good. I tested it on a conn naked lady. I'm not impressed with the sales support but the return policy is excellent so than God for that. I returned it because it didn't play in tune with my horn, not for any other reason. The whole horn was sharp with this mouthpiece even when pulled all the way out. Intonation is pretty good with the 5C but i don't like plastic mouthpieces.
Best Baritone Mouthpiece
I have played on this mouthpiece for a year before I was convinced I had to had one of my own. It's a mouthpiece that can easily cross over between styles. I also was able to purchase the mouthpiece at a lower cost (WWBW holds up to their low price guarantee!).
very versatile mouthpiece
I've been using this as my main mouthpiece for the last 5 years and it's served me very well. I play in a small jazz combo and don't gig in large venues and I am able to put out the right amount of sound for those situations. After playing with this mouthpiece for so many years I can also put out a variety of different sounds and textures depending on the style, though this did take time. I also think this mouthpiece prevents me from putting out as much power as i'd like to some times (this is in comparison to my metal dukoff mouthpiece and rubber yanagisawa piece i've used). overall a solid mouthpiece, especially for casual jazz players and classical musicians.
